Last Updated:
Realistic masks have brought Halloween to another level. All we need to do is find the perfect matching costume, and everything is complete. Masks have evolved from the plastic ones to the hyper-realistic ones that are difficult to recognize. A study in the United Kingdom successfully fooled 20% of the participants into thinking that the masks were the real faces. How did they come to be so famous?
The history and evolution of mask use

Masks have been around since time in the past. They were mostly associated with religious and social ceremonies such as funeral customs and fertility rights. Some societies believed they possessed sacred powers and used them for healing rituals to cure sicknesses. The properly made ones would be used for protective purposes in certain weathers. Egyptian funeral masks are well-known examples where masks were used for funeral rituals. Another known example is their use in sporting and entertainment activities by roman gladiators in history.
Masks have since evolved in their use and are currently still being used in professional entertainment. They are now being used to enhance special effects in movies. Latex masks can take any appearance of your choice, depending on how imaginative and creative you are. This is the reason most people prefer them during Halloween. You can find a realistic matching mask for any costume you prefer.
Masks have become better and are still evolving. In the past, they were made of plastic, wood, and clay. Nowadays, they are made of latex or silicone, which is more comfortable to wear. They have also improved in terms of appearance.
Why are they a popular Halloween choice

One of the obvious reasons people are opting for masks is their ability to conceal identity. Therefore, you can fill in the profile you have chosen. Masks complete your costume, and no one can find out what is beneath. Another main reason is the scary part. Companies that sell realistic masks have now stocked a wide range of options. They include ghost masks, zombies, werewolves, goblins, aliens, and vampire looking one. No one can deny that the most exciting part of Halloween is the scaring people bit. You may also go for the fun and cute looking ones according to your preference.
Apart from Halloweens, these masks are excellent film making props. Some film producers prefer using the most hyper-realistic ones instead of makeup that requires applications every other time they want to shoot. All the actor needs to do is dress up and wear their mask to fit into the character.
