About National Youth Traffic Safety Month
This marks the second year for National Youth Traffic Safety Month, which was created by National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) to encourage teens to conduct safe driving projects during prom, graduation and the launch of the summer driving season. About Act Out Loud
Car crashes are the No. 1 killer of teens in the U.S., and summer is a particularly deadly time of year for teens on the road. This spring, in honor of National Youth Traffic Safety Month (NYTSM) in May, teens across the country will Act Out Loud and raise their voices about this important issue.

March 6-26: Teams submitted project proposals for how they plan to spread safe teen driving messages.

Starting March 27: Contest sponsors National Organizations for Youth Safety, The Allstate Foundation and Keep the Drive (a project of The Allstate Foundation) selected 10 teams to start building their projects on the ground, based on their proposed projects' originality, level of involvement and communication of the following messages and theme:

  • "May is National Youth Traffic Safety Month."
  • "Car crashes are the #1 killer of teens."
  • "The summer is one of the deadliest times of year for teens on the road."
  • Use of NYTSM and Keep the Drive branding.

April 14-30: Teams execute projects in their schools and communities and document their experiences on team blogs through photos, videos and stories. Teams are encouraged to plan and implement a part of their projects or a celebration of their project success during the last few days of April.

May 1-9: To kick off NYTSM, people across the country vote on the teams' activism projects. Their votes will determine which teams and their schools will win the $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000 prizes.

The Allstate Foundation is an independent, charitable organization made possible by subsidiaries of The Allstate Corporation. The Allstate Foundation partners with non-profit organizations on community initiatives that promote "safe and vital communities," "tolerance, inclusion, and diversity" and "economic empowerment." Teen driving and empowering victims of domestic violence have been major initiatives for the Foundation since 2005.
